You Became an Educator...
to ignite minds, shape futures, and make a difference.

But somewhere along the way, the spark dimmed. The passion that once fueled you has been replaced by exhaustion and stress.

Here is the good news: it's not too late. You can reconnect with your purpose, rediscover joy in your work, and build the resilience to thrive again.

But first—let's talk honestly about what burnout really means.

Learn about our new pilot course

What Burnout Really Means

You’ve probably heard the word burnout tossed around in conversations— or while scrolling social media.

But have you ever stopped to ask yourself:  What does it really mean?

And more importantly— "how do I know if it’s happening to me?"

Burnout isn't just being tired.

It’s a state of chronic emotional and physical exhaustion, fueled by long-term stress and over-giving.

It can leave you feeling detached, ineffective, and like you're running on empty—no matter how much sleep you get.

The tricky part? Most people don't even realize they're burned out. What they do know is something feels off. They're struggling to function—at work, at home, and in life,  but they don't take steps to correct it.

How Serious Is It -- And Why Is It Happening?

Burnout among educators isn’t just common—it’s a crisis.

The Reality:

  • Almost 2 in 3 teachers show signs of burnout.
  • K–12 and higher education staff report higher burnout rates than any other industry (Gallup) teacher burnout statistics.
  • The World Health Organization now recognizes burnout as an occupational phenomenon—not a personal weakness.

 The Impact:

  •  55% of teachers say they’re ready to leave due to burnout
  • 22% plan to leave by the end of the school year
  • 300,000 educators and staff left between 2020–2022
  • 30% of new teachers quit within 5 years
  • U.S. teachers are quitting at twice the global rate

 The Causes:

  • Excessive workloads – staff shortages, longer hours, more responsibility without pay increases
  • Emotional & physical exhaustion – anxiety, lack of sleep, little time for personal life
  • Doing more with less – unfilled positions, lack of subs, limited resources
  • Unhealthy workplace culture – feeling undervalued and unsupported by out-of-touch administrators
  • Lack of respect – 80% of teachers report negativity or cynicism toward the profession

So, is it serious?    YES
Should you be paying attention to it?   ABSOLUTELY

The truth:
Burnout doesn’t just go away.
Left unchecked, it deepens—hurting your health, your relationships, and your sense of purpose.

Here's the good news:

You’re not broken—you’re human.

And there’s a path back.

Let's talk about YOU and Your situation.

Have you experienced...

  • Pressure to meet expectations that feel unattainable
  • Overcrowded classrooms and limited resources
  • Demanding parents with unrealistic expectations
  • Complacency, low ambition, and minimal performance standards around you
  • Unprecedented school violence
  • Little acknowledgement or support from higher-ups

It's no wonder you've started second-guessing why you chose this profession in the first place.

Let’s Name What You’re Feeling—So You Can Finally Change It

Do any of these sound familiar?

  • You dread going to work—even the days you used to love.
  • You’ve become emotionally detached from your students.
  • You go through the motions, but you’re not present.
  • You say “yes” when you want to say “no.”
  • You’re making mistakes you never used to make.
  • You snap at your loved ones—or feel nothing at all.
  • You’re constantly “on”—overdoing, overthinking, over-giving.
  • You feel like you’re holding everything together alone… and you resent it.
  • You don’t sleep well—waking up tired, going to bed even more tired.
  • You’ve thought about quitting, but don’t know what else you’d do—so you keep pushing forward, miserable.
  • You wonder: what happened to the person I used to be?

Here is the truth: it’s not because you don’t care.
It’s because
you’ve carried too much, for too long:
It's called Burnout…and it is affecting education professionals everywhere.

 Now Imagine This...

  • Imagine waking up genuinely excited to start your day.
  • Imagine feeling passionate about your subject and fully committed to your students’ success.
  • Imagine building meaningful connections with students, colleagues, and your community.
  • Imagine embracing change with confidence, eager to try new strategies and technologies.
  • Imagine facing challenges with a problem-solving mindset instead of feeling defeated.
  • Imagine bringing lessons to life in ways that are engaging, relevant, and interactive.
  • Imagine your enthusiasm becoming contagious—creating a positive, energized learning atmosphere.
  • Imagine making self-care a priority, and sticking to the boundaries that protect your joy.

This isn’t just wishful thinking.

With the right tools, support, and guidance, it can be your reality.

Yes...There IS Hope!

You have the opportunity to break free from the burnout cycle and return to doing what you love—the way you love doing it.

This isn’t a fantasy. It can be your new story. And together, Sam and April will help you write it.

The System May Not Change Soon—But You Can

We are at a critical point.

Educator burnout isn’t just a personal struggle—it’s a crisis that threatens the future of our schools. Addressing it is essential for maintaining a healthy and effective education system.

The hard truth? The system may not change anytime soon.
But here’s the good news: you can.

You don’t have to leave the field to feel whole again.
Because deep down, the heart that started this journey is still inside you.

It just needs a path back.

Alongside co-facilitator and (health care provider) educator, Sam Bell, April has created a program that truly helps people find their way back to JOY and rediscover their purpose and passion.

About your guide and mentor...April Lara

I know what burnout feels like because I’ve lived it—as an educator. I started with so much passion and hope, excited to make a real difference for my students. But over time, the pace and pressure of the system took a toll, leaving little room to recharge or reconnect with the heart of the work. I felt like a wind-up toy that kept hitting the wall. I had a nice job—but... I... just... didn’t... want... to... do... it... anymore.

What hurt even more was watching it happen to those around me—dedicated teachers losing their spark, students growing more disengaged, and no one quite knowing how to fix it. That’s when I knew I had to take a different path. I wanted to offer something better—to create tools that would help educators feel stronger, more hopeful, and more supported in their work.

That’s how Burnout to Joy was born. What started with helping a few colleagues has grown into a mission to reach thousands. Along the way, I wrote Becoming Awesome to share stories, tools, and encouragement for anyone ready to reclaim joy in their work. This isn’t just theory—I’m walking this journey, too.
